Doobie Powell was born to Hubert Powell Jr. (Gospel Jazz Great) and Jacquelyn Powell (Powerhouse Vocalist) in Harford, CT. His musical journey began at the tender age of two, influenced by the musical prowess of his parent’s who exposed Doobie to many genres of music. Music was a motivating force in Doobie’s life, and his skillful commitment to the art has opened many doors for him to work with the likes of Kim Burrell, the Clark Sisters, Tramaine Hawkins, Kelly Price, Rance Allen, Donald Lawrence, John P. Kee, the late Billy Preston, Mike Phillips, Tye Tribbett, Tonex, The Tommies, Pastor Marvin Winans, Rob Lewis, Alex Ward, Mano Haines, Harry Connick, and Raphael Saadiq, just to name a few. Doobie has performed on and produced many projects for many artists such as Kim Burrell and Harry Connick Jr. Doobie’s gift was featured as an artist and musician in the movie “Black Nativity” (a contemporary adaptation of Langston Hughes' celebrated in 2013). Doobie worked very closely with the movie’s Executive Music Producer Raphael Saadiq and Associate Music Producer Taura Stinson. Doobie brilliantly utilized his keyboard knowledge on the organ, piano, Rhodes and in programming. He gracefully contributed to the lyrics on: ‘Motherless Child’ (performed by Jacob Latimore) and assisted in arranging three songs of the soundtrack: Hush Child (performed by Jenifer Hudson, Jacob Latimore, Luke James and Grace), Rise Up Shepherd and Follow (performed by Mary J. Blige), Fix Me Jesus (performed by Jennifer Hudson). He celebrates his heritage of music as he comes from a family line of Musicians, singers and preachers. He and his family have traveled extensively to minister in the U S, Japan, Africa and Paris, France.
